I do not know many (if any) little humans who can sit and smile for extended periods of time. And that is one of the many reasons I will not ask them to. The goal of your family session is not to capture the little one’s strained face as they are forced into stillness. It is to capture all the details and love your family exudes. Exactly as it does, right now, in the season you are in. If we asked your children to act against who they are, then it would not show your authentic family, right?
Now, you might be asking how we can work with their hyper personality or their exploration drive. And Momma, I’ve got that answer for you. It starts with you! Instead of trying to get your tiny humans to quiet down and be still with you, I am going to ask you to explore with them! I know big shocker! But dear, we want them to be their natural wild selves. That is how we capture the season you are in with all the love and genuine connection it offers.
Following the lead of your child may go against all you’ve come to think a family portrait session is. But, I promise you it does not have to stay in the bubble friend. There is a way to freeze time in this season while actually reflecting what this season is for your family.
